We all need a little bit of change every now and again and the Catalyst company van was well overdue an overhaul! Before the new wrap it reflected our previous green theme. Now it is like a new van.

We have chosen to opt for an unusual design in order to attract more attention and hopefully make it a memorable talking point. The design was conceived by Jeff, our Managing Director and it’s evolved into the masterpiece it is now, with the excellent work of the designers at Excel Colour Print

Excel Colour Print have been great to work with, friendly and professional. We would recommend them to anyone considering a similar project. They’ve even produced a fantastic YouTube video of the wrapping process.

Lawns Caravan & Motorhome Trade Show - September 2014.

Preparation is underway for the Lawns Caravan & Motorhome trade show in Hull 9th - 11th September 2014.

The show attracts about 3,500 visitors from throughout the UK, and many parts of Europe and Scandinavia - HERCMA Trade Shows.

We hope to see some of you there, let’s hope the weather holds out for us this year!!

OpenSSL Heartbleed Bug

There has been a lot of news recently about a security vulnerability in a version of OpenSSL, commonly known as the “Heartbleed Bug”. OpenSSL is a popular cryptographic software library used to help keep Internet communications secure, so understandably you may have questions about how this might impact you and our software.

We take the responsibility for keeping your personal information protected very seriously at Catalyst and would like to assure you that with regards to the Heartbleed bug, our online servers and Platinum Software were not vulnerable. To clarify, any communications between Platinum and our servers were not exposed to the OpenSSL vulnerability.

While we always advise our customers to be cautious and aware of the security of their personal and company information, you don’t need to change any Platinum Software passwords in relation to this bug. We would like to take this opportunity to advise our customers to have a password policy for their business and frequent change of password is one of the many aspects of a good policy. See ‘here’ for more details on password policies.

We cannot advise on the vulnerability of any third parties and you are advised to seek confirmation from those third parties if you wish to know if your information stored with them was vulnerable to the “Heartbleed bug”.

Fowlers Parts EPC - Bike Trade

Did you know that you can import your Fowlers Parts basket directly into Catalyst?

Online parts wholesaler Fowlers Parts (www.fowlersparts.co.uk), have enhanced the integration of their online EPC site with Catalyst.

Catalyst users can import their Fowlers Parts basket directly into Workshop jobs, Point of Sale and Order Processing areas of Catalyst.

When Creating Workshop Estimates:

  1. Lookup the parts that you require to your basket on the Fowlers Parts website.
  2. Click the CATALYST button at the bottom of the “View Basket” screen. This transfers the data from Fowlers Parts web site to a temporary file in your system.
  3. Create or open your workshop job and navigate to the “Estimate” tab.
  4. Click “Add”. The parts entry screen should open and the cursor will be in the “Stock Code” field.
  5. Press Alt+F6. The contents of your basket are added to your estimate.

The process is exactly the same in Catalyst Point of Sale and Order Processing.

We had the opportunity to introduce new staff to the show and let them understand what the show is all about.

Breakdown went smoothly and efficiently – the new stand is much easier to dismantle! Thanks are due to Nigel, Sarah and Mike for being ever present at the show, and thanks to Alex for attending and helping with the breakdown.

I shouldn’t finish without thanks to Natasha for her excellent work in organising and designing the stand.

We had another good day with a decent mix of existing customers and new prospects. It was a little quiet at the start of the day as we would expect for a Monday given that the traffic was quite heavy, but the middle part of the day was very busy.

Again we were busy enough that we didn't get to speak to everyone that came to the stand, but we tried to acknowledge those of you who we weren't able to speak to as you went past!

The new stand layout is working well and has achieved our objectives with the demonstration areas and the couches for more relaxed discussions. All in all, we had another positive day.

With our new larger stand this year, we were looking forward to a busy day and we weren’t disappointed. There was a steady flow of people for most of the day, and it was good to see a serious number of both existing and potential new customers. There were times when we weren’t able to speak to everyone who wanted to see us, so apologies if you weren’t able to catch up with us.

We have no statistics from the organisers as of yet but there was a good buzz around the hall.

Having dusted down the company marquee, plotted, planned and examined lists we arrived on site bright and early for set up. Half an hour in, depression, having scattered the considerable contents of the van far and wide we reach the unfortunate conclusion that the marquee is somehow two joints short of buildable! Ooops, frantic phone calls prompted much examining of the deep dark recesses of our offices, we unearthed one but still no sign of the second… No choice, find out where it came from. Trusty "3G" mobile internet and "Google" combine to provide an answer. The suppliers are just an hour down the road in Rotherham. A quick phone call and a dash to "Gala Tents" and we have our solution within a couple of hours, Many thanks to all at "Gala" for processing our order speedily so that we had a roof in place before the weather closed in!

This "interesting" test of initiative and team spirit turned out to be well worth the effort. Despite some definitely damp and autumnal weather the show has been a great success providing us not only with the opportunity to gather new potential customers but to talk with old friends and to form partnerships with others within the caravan industry.

Thanks also due to all at "Hercma" for organising the show, particularly their efforts to introduce more caravan dealers.

Terminal Authorisation

We have released a new feature today to make the process of replacing machines that run Platinum even easier!

As you may be aware, your Platinum system is licensed for use on a certain number of terminals, and if you change a machine, it has to be re-authorised.

Prior to this release, you needed to contact us to go through the process of re-licensing. With this new feature, replacing a machine or transferring a licence to another machine can now be done by you from the Platinum login screen over the internet without needing our assistance.

  • You will be able to re-license the same terminal once per month by this method.
  • Due to the complications of Windows configuration, some of you may still require our help with this configuration for which we will continue to charge on the basis of time taken.
  • You will still need to contact us to increase the number of terminals for your Platinum system.
